Local police are continuing an investigation into the apparent murder this morning of a black male, said to be between 20 and 30 years old, at a vacant home located at 23rd Street between 25th and 26th avenues.

A body has been taken from a blue car parked outside a recently-renovated north Meridian home that neighbors say has been vacant for months.

(11:15 a.m.) Possible murder in north Meridian (The Meridian Star)

Meridian police are responding to a possible murder in north Meridian, said Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler. A man was found dead inside a car outside an abandoned house on 23rd Street between 25th and 26th avenues, Cobler said.

Veterans Cemetery names new director (The Meridian Star)

The Mississippi Veterans Affairs Board has appointed Timothy Lockey of Collinsville as Cemetery Director for the Veterans Memorial Cemetery being constructed near Newton.

Three graduate Air National Guard basic training (The Meridian Star)

Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas announced three local men have graduated from the Air National Guard’s basic training cycle. The three airmen are, Joseph C. Boswell Jr., Joshua O. Crane and Aubrey R. Pogue.

A Salute to Nero (The Meridian Star)

Lt. Ruston Russell recites a poem during the memorial service for Meridian Police Department K-9 Nero, Thursday evening. Owner, Sergeant Chris Swanner and his family raised Nero into helping the police with discovering millions of dollars with the Drug Task Force.
